Sara Longworth is a collage artist from Worcester, MA. Though she works primarily in a collage style that incorporates the Japanese technique of "chigirie" (or torn paper collage), Sara also enjoys using other mediums. She paints, designs jewelry, and is currently exploring the art of papermaking.
Sara started to create jewelry designs at an early age. While attending high school in Connecticut, she handpainted beads and created woven designs for her classmates. As an adult, she created jewelry for the bridesmaids in her 2003 wedding, and has designed custom bridal jewelry and other beaded creations ever since. In addition to jewelry, she makes rosaries and other prayerbeads.
She did not start working with paper collage until 2005, when she moved to Philadelphia with her husband, John. During their two year residence in the "City of Brotherly Love", Sara showcased her artwork in juried exhibitions and "First Friday" art events throughout the greater Philadelphia area. When she moved back to Connecticut for a year in 2006 she showed her work in numerous locations, including solo exhibitions at two restaurants. In addition, Sara has won several awards for her work at juried shows in both Pennsylvania and Connecticut. She moved to Worcester in October 2007 and participated in the juried Holiday Arts Happening at the DCU Center.
